HYDATID DISEASE

  • It is parasitic disease caused by Eccinococcus Granulosus. Mode of transmission is by oro-faecal route. The commonest organ involved is the liver.
  • Hydatid cyst wall is composed of three layers: outer cuticular layer or ectocyst, derived from the host; an intermediate laminated layer & inner germinal layer or endocyst, gives rise to brood capsule with scolices, secretes hydatid fluid & forms the outer layer.
