HYDATID DISEASE 

  • It is parasitic disease caused by Eccinococcus Granulosus. Mode of transmission is by oro-faecal route. The commonest organ involved is the liver. 
  • Hydatid cyst wall is composed of three layers: outer cuticular layer or ectocyst, derived from the host; an intermediate laminated layer & inner germinal layer or endocyst, gives rise to brood capsule with scolices, secretes hydatid fluid & forms the outer layer. 


HYDATID DISEASE 

  • The cyst is usually remains asymptomatic. Patient may come with abdominal pain or mass. 
  • The cyst may cause a visible swelling if located superficially. 
  • In the majority of cases, the disease may remain latent for many years.
